So first of all, you might want to copy and paste things better. Also the prompt is telling you to write about their positions, influence, and interactions but your thesis is demonstrating none of that. The prompt asks about the different women's role in The Great Gatsby and you are grouping them all together and dismissing the prompt entirely. So basically if your essay is based on the thesis you have written here- you're probably gonna have to rewrite it. Just saying.

. The philosophy of “the grass is always greener on the other side” is shared by many of Fitzgerald’s characters, including Daisy, Myrtle and Jordan who reach for something they don’t possess and having achieved their goal, realize that it won’t fulfill them after all.

Your thesis is very well written by the way. The problem with it is that it speaks about women, but not of their social positions and interactions

The prompt I chose was theme: Analyze how the first chapter of The Great Gatsby sets forth the major themes of the book.

Um you're not really saying what these themes are gonna be doing for the book. The prompt is how the first chapter sets forth the themes but you're just listing them and not saying what they do. If that makes sense. You don't have to listen to me.

Everyone's thesis statements are a "work-in-progress" at this point. I completely understand the feeling of embarrassment, but please remember that we haven't worked on thesis statements yet--not the least little bit--and I gave you no guidance before the essay. Therefore, you have nothing to be embarrassed about because I failed to set you up for success. You delivered a workable thesis, and now we're going to work together as a group to get everybody up to speed on delivering AP level thesis statements.

The prompt I chose was Symbols: A symbol in a novel is a concrete object that represents an idea or a set of ideas. Choose three major symbols in the book. Explain what those symbols mean and how they function together to support a central theme. (Hint: obviously in order to respond to this prompt, you will have to identify what theme is being supported.)

Last year when we were first learning to write thesis statements I used five words to help me remember what my thesis statement had to contain.

Fitzgerald used the eyes of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg, the color yellow, and the green light on Daisy’s dock as symbols to convey the subtle struggle that all the characters face; achieving the American Dream.

The prompt that I chose was money. Analyze the portrayal of wealth in the novel—the difference between “old money” and “new money” as well as the things that money can and cannot buy. What is Fitzgerald ultimately trying to say about money and materialism? What does Gatsby’s rise and fall say about the pursuit of wealth and status in the world of the novel?

Revision: Fitzgerald's genius is reflected in his brilliant use of the green light, the valley of ashes, and Dr.T.J. Eckleburg's eyes, which he uses to illustrate his central theme of the decadent, immoral lifestyle of American Society in the 1920's.

Revision: In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald's usage of symbols such as the green light, the valley of ashes, and Dr. T.J. Eckleburg's eyes function together to reflect the theme of decadence and immorality that was a constant of American society in the 1920's.
